Reaseheath College and University Centre’s Freshers’ Fair got off to a fantastic start with The Hits Radio Breakfast Show’s Elliot and Matilda presenting live at the event. The dynamic duo met with new and returning students, adding an extra layer of excitement to the day.
The event was a huge success, with hundreds of students attending to explore the various clubs and societies available. They also had the opportunity to browse a vibrant marketplace featuring local food, jewellery, clothing, and art and craft traders.
Elliot shared his enthusiasm, saying: “What’s been great about today is meeting so many people who are really excited about being at Reaseheath College. They’re excited it’s a brand-new term, they’ve got their future ahead of them, and they’re telling us all about it. They’re coming up to us saying they listen on their way in in the morning, and it’s just amazing to get to interact with our listeners, our little family, face to face here at Reaseheath College.”
Matilda echoed his sentiments, adding: “I love coming to Reaseheath College. Whenever we’ve done events here before, I really feel like it has a great sense of community. It brings in a lot of people who are local but also a lot of people who live far away and are then residential. That’s a great way to get young people interested in Hits Radio and what we do and bring them into that little family we’ve got here in Cheshire and Staffordshire, which I love.”
Summer Lakin, Reaseheath Students’ Union President, said: “The Freshers’ Fair is always a highlight of start of the academic year, and having Elliot and Matilda here made it even more special. Their energy and enthusiasm were infectious, and it was great to see our students engaging with them and each other.”
The presenting pair also had some words of wisdom for the new student intake with Elliot saying: “I lived away from home, so I would say learn to cook because I didn’t and I lived off beans on toast for a very long time.”
He added: “The most important thing is to throw yourself in, be as motivated and driven as you can. If you’re here and you’re enthusiastic about what you are doing –and we’re seeing that from all the students – that has to really shine through for the whole academic year, so make sure you’re sticking at it and working really hard.”
Matilda added, “I would say, just take a breather every now and again, be kind to yourself and enjoy it. This is a small yet brilliant part of your life, and you can go in any direction you want. And it’s all going to be OK.”
