The Chief Executive of the British Horse Society (BHS), James Hick, praised our thriving sector partnerships when he visited our Equestrian Centre during our annual Equine Industry Week.

James toured our training facilities, met members of our teaching team and learned about the ways we work with employers to ensure our courses are relevant to the equine industry.

He said: “This visit has given me a greater understanding of Reaseheath’s educational offer and also of the great facilities which you have here.

“I have been particularly impressed how the college aligns its equine courses to match what employers want by interconnecting with the equestrian community in the north west, particularly with its employers and industry bodies.

“From a BHS perspective, I have been delighted to see that Reaseheath gives students the opportunity to study for BHS qualifications alongside their college course. We believe that students choosing this route will have a prosperous career ahead while continuing to enjoy their love of horses.”

During his visit, James judged a student turnout competition which posed him a challenge as all entries were of a high standard. Winners were: 1st Levi Webster (Robin), 2nd Ellen Darby (BTRC Landescent), 3rd Robin Geary (Jess)

Our Equine Industry Week puts the spotlight on the diverse careers available within the equine sector and encourages students to consider their options. Students benefit from the knowledge and experience of visiting professionals and also enjoy study trips to commercial businesses and charities.

This year, 38 students provided the arena party at the Horse of the Year Show while others enjoyed activities including visits to Pinfold Stables, the base of Olympic Event Rider Alex Hua Tian, and to Rookery Equine Fitness and Rehabilitation Centre. They also developed their marketing and product knowledge at Naylors Equestrian store.

Other highlights included a demonstration by Reaseheath alumnus Kaitlinn Shaap, who now runs her own equine veterinary physiotherapy business, a talk on careers within the veterinary sector by Campbell Thompson, a senior partner at Nantwich Equine Vets, and an online workshop with Caroline Dickens of Baileys Horse Feeds. Former student and professional Dressage rider Alex Jo Parsons also visited to share how she progressed to running her own business.
