Introducing Emily Gauton – Level 3 Extended Diploma in Equine Management student
Hi! My name is Emily Gauton and I am 17 years old from Stockport studying my second year of my Level 3 Extended Diploma in Equine Management at Reaseheath College. I have had a passion for horses for as long as I can remember; I have always wanted to work with horses from a young age and what a great place to come to! Working out in the industry for a number of years at a livery yard has really helped to develop my interests in getting a job with horses and has already provided me with several opportunities that can help me throughout my college journey. I am hoping that my Reaseheath journey as an equine student can help me get my future dream job of Horse Osteopathy.
I live onsite at college in the girls under 18’s Tomkinson Halls. Living in is the best thing! As this is now my second year, I see Reaseheath as my second home. In my first year I was so excited to come live away, and now I couldn’t see myself doing anything different. Making new friends and having an amazing social life has helped me develop as a person with things such as my confidence, independence and my social skills. Being in my second year coming back to college has made it a whole lot easier for me as I still have my amazing friends from last year and with helping out where I can around college, I have come to make new friends and widen my friendship group.
Student life is great, every evening is something different and there is a wide variety of socials. On the 25th of October, Reaseheath hosted the annual Halloween Ball! What an amazing night that was, full of laughing, dancing and spending time with my Reaseheath family. Freshers ball was another favourite, everyone looked the part with their freshers tops on and helped to celebrate the start of the new year. I also spend a lot of time in the bar socialising with friends.
Currently on my course we are starting to get into the swing of things! I have lessons such as genetics, rehabilitation, fitness, investigative project, health, events and stable management which also includes stock hours. So far, my favourite lesson is events management as we are planning our own event to run on the 11th December (if anymore would like to come watch it would be more than appreciated!) in aid of charity. This event consists of show jumping and showing; events is so beneficial in the sense that you have to be strict with time management and be able to create schedules which is always needed in the industry.
Very soon you will be getting to know a lot more about me and my Reaseheath College experience and getting to see me in action and meeting some of the horses.
