Knutsford residents have been discovering the perfect blend of creativity and numeracy at Reaseheath College’s popular Cake Decorating course at The Welcome.
This unique, free hands-on course, part of the Government-funded Multiply initiative, has helped participants enhance their maths skills through practical applications like measurements, proportions, and conversions – all while mastering the art of cake decorating.
Launched last month, this engaging and supportive course had all the right ingredients for making maths fun.
Designed for learners aged 19+ who live in Cheshire East and currently have GCSE below C/4 in maths, the course has already made a significant impact on its previous attendees.
“I wanted to learn how to decorate cakes properly and gain confidence with a piping bag. This course was brilliant! The tutor Victoria was so clear and supportive, answering all our questions and making sure we felt comfortable. I’m now confident enough to practise and make my daughter’s wedding cake next year,” says Carol Race.
“The course was wonderful. With help and guidance, I’ve learned techniques like flower moulding and icing. It’s been a really inspiring experience,” adds Carolyn Ward.
Held at The Welcome, a community hub in Longridge, Knutsford, offering support and activities for local residents, the course also received enthusiastic praise from the hosts.
“The response to the last course was fantastic. It’s wonderful to see residents coming together, learning new skills, and creating something special right on their doorstep,” said Lucy Page, Assistant Manager at The Welcome.
Through practical sessions, learners explored essential numeracy concepts like measurements, proportions, and conversions in a fun and engaging way. At the end of each class, participants will take home beautifully decorated cakes to share with family and friends.
“We’ve had so much fun and learned so much in these classes,” added Carol. “I can’t wait to try these new skills at home and share what I’ve created with my family.”
