Main terms and conditions of employment
This summary offers general guidance to prospective employees and at this stage does not form part of any contract of employment. If successful in your employment application, your conditions of service will be confirmed with you.
HOURS OF WORK: You will be expected to work such hours as are reasonably necessary for the proper performance of your duties and responsibilities, with a minimum working week of 37 hours. You are required to be flexible in your approach to work to meet the needs of the College and the learners.
LEAVE: The College’s annual leave year runs from 1st August to 31st July and entitlement for your first leave year may be calculated on a pro rata basis according to your start date. The current entitlement for the Assistant Principal is 35 days plus statutory Bank Holidays. The College closes for 2 weeks over Christmas and 3 days annual leave to cover the days in between Christmas and New Year will be deducted from your 35-day entitlement. The additional days for the 2-week closure are given in addition to your annual leave entitlement.
PENSION SCHEME: The Assistant Principal will be entitled to membership of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme or Local Government Pension Scheme. This pension scheme is funded by contributions from both the College and staff and your contributions will be deducted from your gross monthly salary. Transfer of contributions from previous employment may be possible under some circumstances and further details can be obtained when employment commences.
SICKNESS: The College operates a scheme which provides for varying periods of sickness absence on full pay, followed by half pay, according to length of recognised continuous service.
PROBATION: If appointed to the post, you will be subject to a six months’ probation period, during which time you will be given regular opportunities to review and discuss your progress.
EXPENSES: If the post requires travel during the course of the working day, you will be entitled to claim reimbursement for mileage if travelling by car or for ticket costs if travelling by public transport, and details of the current College rates will be made available to you on commencing employment. You will need to hold valid business insurance if using your own vehicle.
PERFORMANCE REVIEW AND DEVELOPMENT: All College staff are expected, regardless of the duration of their contracts, to undertake their role to a good and professional standard. Your performance will be monitored annually through the Performance Development Review programme. You will be expected to actively participate in learning and development activities and demonstrate a satisfactory level of performance and conduct in your role via the College’s performance review programme.
CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Your Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is considered a high priority by the College, as part of our drive towards excellence in all areas. You will be expected to maintain a record of the CPD you have undertaken on the College self-service portal. Applications for assistance with funding are considered on an individual basis and will be offered as appropriate.
Reasonable relocation expenses will be considered for this role and will form part of an agreed offer of employment.
