This comprehensive course covers tree identification, inspection, and woodland management, plus essential qualifications in chainsaw maintenance, cross-cutting, tree felling, and emergency first aid.

Participants who complete the programme will receive a starter pack to support their work, including:

What will I study?
Day 1:
- Introduction to arboriculture and forestry
- Health and safety in the workplace/ risk assessment
- Basic tree biology and identification
Day 2:
- Tree inspection and assessment
- Understanding tree physiology
- Basic visual tree inspections
- Identifying common tree diseases and pests
- Practical session: Tree inspection exercises
Day 3/4:
- City and Guilds NPTC L2 Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross Cutting (CS30)
- Introduction to chainsaws and safety equipment
- Chainsaw maintenance and troubleshooting
- Practical session: Chainsaw operation and safety
Day 5/6/7:
- City and Guilds NPTC L2 Award in Felling and Processing trees up to 380mm (CS31)
- Principles of tree felling
- Safe felling techniques and procedures
- Practical session: Felling small trees
Day 8:
- Principles of woodland management
- Sustainable forestry practices
- Practical session: Woodland management activities
Day 9:
- NPTC Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Manually Fed Wood Chipper Operations
- Prepare and operate a manually fed woodchipper
Day 10:
- Emergency first aid and safety (6 hour training)
- Basic first aid training
- Emergency response procedures
- Practical session: first aid drills
