Maddi Simmons – Bus and Coach Engineering

“I’m a final year engineering apprentice with First Bus, one of the largest UK bus operators. For my college study I’m based at Reaseheath’s Engineering Apprenticeship Academy and I spend the rest of my time being mentored at my depot in Somerset.

“First Bus is a forward thinking company which is moving towards a zero emission fleet, so I’m gaining transferable skills with different hand tools and systems as the fleet transfers to hybrid and all electric transport vehicles.

“It’s an exciting industry to be in and you learn something new and interesting every day. Gaining a well recognised qualification opens up so many opportunities – and you’re getting paid at the same time!

“The best thing about studying at Reaseheath is the wealth of experience of the lecturers and that the sessions are delivered both in the classroom and in the workshop. The training facilities are up to date and the accommodation and social facilities are good.”
