The devoted head of a Reaseheath based charity group was among 500 outstanding volunteers to be honoured as part of the Coronation celebrations.

Sheila Saner, Chair of Nantwich & District Riding for the Disabled (RDA) Group, which operates out of Reaseheath Equestrian Centre, was recognised as a Coronation Champion for her 40 years of service to the charity at local, regional and national levels. She received a commemorative badge, a certificate signed by Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla and an invitation to attend the Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle.

As well as running the Nantwich & District RDA Group, Sheila is Honorary Life Vice President of RDA and Greater Manchester County Chair. She is also an RDA North West Regional Coach.

An RDA spokesperson said: “Many congratulations to Sheila on her well deserved Coronation Champion award.  She is a key member of our North West Regional Committee and has devoted an enormous amount of time to the RDA over many years.”

James Rayner, Equine Curriculum Manager at Reaseheath, praised Sheila’s tireless work on behalf of the charity. He said: “The entire equine team is extremely proud of our links with Sheila and the RDA. We look forward to continuing to grow our partnership and support students progressing into this ever growing area of the industry”.

Sheila, who set up the Nantwich RDA Group in 2017, said: “This award came as a great surprise. I was honoured and delighted to accept it on behalf of everyone involved in the RDA.”

Nantwich RDA has a dedicated yard with new stables and six horses at our Equestrian Centre. Catering for all disabilities, the group offers sessions for 50 riders aged from four years to sixty-plus supported by over 50 volunteers. The riding sessions are held in our indoor arena and riders are also trained on Flicka, our riding simulator which can be hired for lessons at Reaseheath.

A common room is currently being constructed alongside the RDA yard, along with an area where the group can stable its own riding simulator.
