As a parent or carer, guiding your child through the Clearing process can make a huge difference in their higher education journey. Here’s how you can support them effectively, focusing on opportunities at University Centre Reaseheath.

Key dates

Clearing for University Centre Reaseheath opened on Friday, July 5th, and closes on Monday, October 21st. If your child already has their results from a previous year, they can enter Clearing now. If they are waiting for exam results this summer, they’ll need to wait until they receive their grades to participate in Clearing.

  1. Step-by-step guide for parents and carers

Research courses in advance

Encourage your child to research courses with vacancies before results day. This preparation will make the process smoother and less stressful.

  1. Register through Clearing

If your child is applying directly through Clearing, they’ll need to register with UCAS and complete an application. They will receive a welcome email with details on accessing their application through the UCAS Hub and a Clearing Number.

  1. Use Clearing Plus

Clearing Plus is a valuable tool if your child is applying for the first time through Clearing or has been unsuccessful with their initial application. UCAS will use the information provided in their application, qualifications, results, and university preferences to generate a list of their top 50 matches.

  1. Get results early

On results day, ensure your child gets their results as early as possible. This gives them a head start in the Clearing process.

  1. Search for course vacancies

Once your child has their results, they can search for courses using the UCAS online search tool, which provides the most up-to-date information on course vacancies. At University Centre Reaseheath, we offer a variety of courses, including:

  • Canine Behaviour
  • Veterinary Nursing
  • Zoo Management
  • Equine Behaviour
  • Wildlife Conservation.
  1. Speak to our Admissions Team

For advice and guidance, call our Admissions Team at University Centre Reaseheath. We are available Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm, at 0333 733 1965. During the call, please have the following information ready:

  • UCAS ID number (if you have one) for accessing your application online. If not, we can find your information by asking a few more questions.
  • Qualifications and grades.
  • Their results ready, as you may be asked to scan and email proof of your results.

We’ll discuss the courses your child is interested in and determine their qualifications for entry. If needed, we can arrange a call with a course team member for a more in-depth discussion. In most cases, your child will receive a decision during the phone call. If this is not possible, we’ll explain why and provide an estimated timeframe.

** Important tips for the call **

  • Be patient, as phone lines may be busy. Don’t worry; just keep trying.
  • Make sure you child makes the phone call themselves – we can’t speak to you on their behalf.
  • Encourage them to ask lots of questions to ensure they get all the information they need.
  • Make sure they have access to the UCAS Hub and emails.
  1. Accepting a verbal offer

If we offer a place, your child cannot add a clearing choice on UCAS Hub until 1pm on August 17th (if they applied in the main cycle). For those applying in Clearing from July 5th, they can add us as soon as we confirm the offer. This allows all applicants in Clearing the opportunity to contact institutions and make informed decisions. Your child should not click ‘Add a Clearing Choice’ on UCAS Hub until they have spoken to the institution and have been verbally offered a place. Adding a choice prematurely could delay the application process.

  1. Visiting university choices

Visiting the universities can help your child make a well-informed decision. At University Centre Reaseheath, we will have several open events coming up that provide an excellent opportunity to find out more about the University Centre Reaseheath experience. Register your interest in these events here:

  1. Next steps

After confirmation, update the Student Finance application and explore suitable accommodation or commuting options. Help your child prepare for university life by researching relevant topics, such as financial management and adjusting to student life. 1. Be there

The most important thing to remember is that you’re helping your child to make the best decision for their future. Encourage them to keep an open mind and provide comfort and reassurance. Guide them to have a Plan B to reduce stress and avoid rushed decisions. Your positive support will help them stay calm and confident, ensuring they make the right choice for them.
